Jacques Dutronc - Il est cinq heures, Paris s'éveille English translation lyrics

Your rating:

It's five o'clock, Paris wake up

I am the heir of the Place Dauphine
And the Place Blanche looks bad
The trucks are full of milk
The street-sweepers are full of brooms
It is five o'clock (a.m.)
Paris wake up
Paris wake up
Transvestites are going to shave
The strippers are dressed again
Bolsters are crushed
The lovers are tired
It is five o'clock (a.m.)
Paris wake up
Paris wake up
The cafe is in the cups
waiters clean the mirror
And on the Boulevard Montparnasse
The station is a carcass
It is five o'clock (a.m.)
Paris wake up
Paris wake up
Suburbanite are in stations
At La Villette we slice the bacon
Paris by night, return to the coaches
The bakers are making bread
It is five o'clock (a.m.)
Paris wake up
Paris wake up
The Eiffel Tower has cold feet
The Arc de Triomphe is revived
And the Obelisk is drawn
Between night and day
It is five o'clock (a.m.)
Paris wake up
Paris wake up
The newspapers are printed
The workers are feeling down
People get up, they are bullied
It is the time where I’m going to bed
It is five o'clock (a.m.)
Paris get up
It is five o'clock
I don’t want to sleep

Paris by night regagne les cars

I think that the previous translations lack poetic licence - I humbly suggest tht I can do better

I have inherited the Place Dauphine
And the Place Blanche looks very tired
The trucks are loaded with milk
The street-sweepers are armed with their brooms
It is five o'clock (a.m.)
Paris is waking up
Paris is waking up
The transvestites are going home to shave
The strippers are putting their clothes back on
The beds are all in a mess
The lovers are exhausted
It is five o'clock (a.m.)
Paris is waking up
Paris is waking up
The cup are filled with coffee
The waiters are cleaning their windows
And on the Boulevard Montparnasse
The train station is an empty shell
It is five o'clock (a.m.)
Paris is waking up
Paris is waking up
The suburban workers are arrivingat their train stations
At La Villette we are preparing the sliced bacon
Paris night hawks return to their coaches
The bakers are cramming their ovens with baguettes
It is five o'clock (a.m.)
Paris is waking up
Paris is waking up
The Eiffel Tower has cold feet
The Arc de Triomphe has been reborne
And the Obelisk is alive and kicking
Half-way between night and day
It is five o'clock (a.m.)
Paris is waking up
Paris is waking up
The newspapers are on the news stands
The workers are fed up
The people are bullied into submission
It's about time that I went to bed
It is five o'clock (a.m.)
Paris is slowly awakening
It is five o'clock
And I'm not at all tired
